Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is a species offlowering plantin themint familyLamiaceae. It is sometimes called wild marjoram, and its close relative,O. majorana, is known as sweet marjoram. Both are very widely used as culinary herbs, especially in Italian and French cuisine. Oregano is also an ornamental plant, with numerouscultivarsbred for varying leaf colour, flower colour and habit.
Oregano contains chemicals that might help reduce cough and spasms. Oregano also might help digestion by increasing bile flow and fighting against some bacteria, viruses, fungi, intestinal worms, and other parasites.
